Chris Laughlin was born on Langley Air Force Base near Hampton, Virginia, but aside from a few brief stints out-of-state, Chris has lived in various Colorado cities since the age of five and calls Colorado home. He received his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Colorado at Denver in 2006.
Chris has been active in politics, working to elect Democratic candidates and support Democratic ideals, for over 10 years. His experience includes an internship with Congresswoman Diana DeGette in 2005, working as a field organizer for the Referendum I campaign in 2006, volunteering for the Obama campaign in 2008, serving as Co-Captain for House District 5B for the Democratic Party of Denver in 2009, volunteering for U.S. Senate Candidate Andrew Romanoff, Senator Michael Bennet, Congressmen Ed Perlmutter and John Salazar, and the House Majority Project in 2010, and serving as Co-Chair of the planning committee for the Colorado Democratic Party’s Annual Jefferson Jackson Dinner in 2012.
Chris has also kept politics and policy close in his work life, having served as a Legislative Secretary for the Colorado House of Representatives during the 2010 legislative session and currently working for the people of Colorado as a Senior Legislative Performance Auditor with the Colorado Office of the State Auditor.
Above everything, Chris is most proud of his involvement with the Young Democrats. In 2012, Chris was elected to serve on the board of the Colorado Young Democrats and was subsequently elected by his fellow board members to be CYD’s Chair. He looks forward to leading the organization to foster involvement of Young Democrats across Colorado. Chris is also currently in his fourth year on the Executive Committee of the Denver Young Democrats, having served two years as DYD’s President and currently serving as the Fundraiser. During his two years as President, DYD built on the success of previous Executive Committees by increasing membership, fundraising, and DYD’s influence in the political community. Chris looks forward to continuing to strengthen the organization through his fundraising efforts.
When not working, serving on the boards of CYD and DYD, or participating in other political events, you may find Chris with friends at various restaurants and bars around Denver or trying to catch a concert at a nearby venue. Chris is proud to be serving two great Young Democrat organizations, working to strengthen youth involvement for the all-important 2012 elections and beyond.
