About the Colorado Young Democrats

History of Organization

The Colorado Young Democrats is the official statewide organization representing Young Democrats all across Colorado. Our organization represents more than 12 chapters from each part of the state.

The Colorado Young Democrats (CYD for short!) are represented by a 9 member executive board. Each member oversees a specific area and is elected to a two year term. During an election, any eligible members of CYD can run to serve in this capacity. To learn more about CYD, check out our constitution(posted soon)!

We work to participate in the electoral process to elect Democrats, influence the ideals of the Democratic Party, run candidates, advocate for progressive issues, and train the next generation of progressive leaders.

History of the Young Democrats of America

History of Organization

The Young Democrats of America (YDA) is the largest youth-led, partisan political organization in the nation.  The Young Democrats of America mobilizes young people under the age of 37 to participate in the electoral process to elect Democrats, influence the ideals of the Democratic Party, advocate for progressive issues, and train the next generation of progressive leaders.

The Young Democrats of America has over 150,000 members nation-wide in chapters in 46 states and U.S. territories – including high-school and college students, young workers, young professionals, and young families – Our membership reflects the broad diversity of our nation and the Democratic Party.  Our programs engage Young Democrats through their local county, college, or high-school chapters, through state and regional programming, and nationally through events like our quarterly national meetings, national convention, issue advocacy, and academies.

The Young Democrats of America has been the official youth arm of the Democratic Party since its founding in 1932.  Since 2002, the Young Democrats of America has operated independently of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) as a nonfederal 527 political organization, while maintaining 3 positions on the DNC.

State-based and local organizing are the cornerstones of our efforts and the Young Democrats of America remains committed to supporting our state and local chapters with the tools they need to succeed and grow.
